Respect is spelled R-E-S-P-E-C-T…

Lately, I have had several conversations about students’ (and people in general) lack of respect. I have had several instances lately where I, or someone I know, has been blatantly interrupted. I’m the kind of person who will tell you that your interruption was rude because if I don’t say anything, you may never learn.

Also, I have a professor who can be a little lenient, but I know some students who take advantage of her leniency. I hear the students say they are going to skip (and do) passed their allocated number of excused days. The reason they will abuse the rules?… Because they don’t think that she will actually count it against them.

Now what does this have to do with PR? When you’re rude or disrespectful, it says a lot about your character. It leaves a lasting horrible impression on the people you interact with.  Not only does this give the professor a reason to never recommend you for a job, but it also means that all your classmates are never going to want to work with you.

So straighten up your acts people! If you are rude or disrespectful, I’ll remember and most likely… I’ll never help you in the future. I wouldn’t put my name on the line for someone who can’t learn to wait until it’s their turn to talk.

That’s all. I’m off my soapbox.

Mind your P’s and Q’s… :)

  1. I agree with this 100 percent. It also seems that for some reason people become very rude during the holiday season. All of the stores are at their most busy time of the year and he service people are doing their jobs, but some customers just do not have patience. It’s the holidays people! I head a woman cusing out a young man at Walmart last night because he took too long helping her load her car up. The woman was young and physically able to do this task on her own, but she was too lazy. I just couldn’t believe it.

  2. go Lindy! I agree with you also. On a different note though I feel that everyone should have some sort of respect for eachother or atleast have the decency to be nice to eachother. I am a waitress and I encounter people who I have never seen in my life and they have never met me and as I walk up to their table they have a sour look on their face and are completly rude! I just do not understand some people. Everyone deserves respect.

  4. Very well said to say the least. My big issue is with people who do not give respect but for some reason expect to get in return. I feel that that goes for professors as well. Agreeably I am the student and you are the teacher, however we are both still people and should treat each other as such. As far as rude students go I feel that you cannot really escape them. Rude people are around even corner and it is truely something I have accepted. But if you are rude to me, you better believe that I am going to be rude right back.

  5. There is always an amount of respect that a teacher deserves. Its inherent, they did the work to earn it and students most definitely should recognize it. I don’t know if I would classify the lack of work or attentiveness to the class as rude though. Its lazy, but who knows the circumstances, other than that lazy person. I will always give someone a chance until they prove me wrong.
